Climate and WeatherThe unique local climate in Turpan endows the city with the most intense heat in the summer months. When visiting this area, bear in mind that this is the hottest city in all of China and one of the hottest in the world! The highest temperature recorded here was 49.6 degrees Celsius. Make sure you come prepared if you visit during the summer months. Always carry plenty of drinking water, take some very strong sunblock and a good hat or cap.

Xining situates at the northwest of China, with a average altitude of 2275 meters. It belongs to the continental mid-drought climate, with rich sunshine. The annual average temperature is 3.2 centigrade. Summer in Xining is cool, with the daily average temperature lower than 17 centigrade. It is a good place to escape the unforgiving heat during summer time. The period from May to Sep. with the most weather condition is the best time to visit. High season prices do apply however and it’s more crowded. With a relative high sea level, temperature differs greatly between daytime and at night. Visitors may consider bring along warm clothing even in summer time. Sun’s solar radiation in highland is strong and intense, so sunscreen, sunglasses, lip creams are needed to protect your eyes and skin.

Situated at the northeast of Qinghai province, Xining lies at the junction of the Lanzhou-Qinghai and the Qinghai-Tibet railway with good transportation. Bordering the harsh Tibet highland, Xining is 2,260 meters above sea level but climate there is much better than that of Tibet. Enjoying a good location surrounded by high mountains, the city has a relatively comfortable climate with neither bone-chilling winter nor sweltering summer and the annually temperature there is about 6 centigrade. Summer in Xining is an ideal season for tourists who can enjoy fresh and crisp weather.

Located in the warm temperature zone, Hotan is dominated by a dry continental desert climate. It is hot in summer and not too cold in winter. There is a great temperature disparity between day and night with little rainfall and a high evaporation rate. There are altogether 182 up to 226 frost-free days around the year and 2470 to 2876 hours sunshine time. The average temperature is 11-12 degrees centigrade. The annual rainfall is 29-47 mm.

Hotan is famous for its jade, carpets, silk and embroidery. For almost 2,000 years it was the principal supplier of precious nephrite, much cherished by the Chinese. White jade came from the bed of the White Jade River; dark-green jade came from the Black Jade River, and was transported by caravans to the heartland of China where it was then exquisitely carved. Today Hotan is a collection centre for the raw white jade, but the yield is very limited. Hotan got the sericulture more than 1,000 years ago, and it is the centre of the traditional hand-woven aidelaixi silk that is produced by small family units and is a favorite of Uigur women.

Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang province, it is located in the middle reaches of the Songhua River in the south of the province, which borders Russia in the north. The urban area is composed of seven districts: Daoli, Daowai, Nangang, Taiping, Xiangfang, Dongli and Pingfang. The whole city covers 1,637 square kilometres, with a population of 2.54 million.
